If you've been scrolling accommodation listings and can't quite tell where Kuta ends and Legian begins, you're not alone. It's one of the most common points of confusion for first-time visitors to Bali — and honestly, the confusion is fair. There's no wall or sign marking the boundary.

Legian sits directly north of Kuta, close enough that they blend into each other on foot. In practice:

  • Kuta is louder, busier, and more built around short-stay tourism — surf shops, bars, the main beach strip, easy airport access.
  • Legian is a notch quieter, with a slightly more local, residential feel mixed in with beachfront hotels, while still being walkable to everything Kuta offers.

Neither is "better" outright — it depends whether you want to be in the middle of the action or a short walk from it.

Where to exchange money in each

You don't need to pick one branch over the other based on which area you're technically staying in — they're close enough that either works, but here's the breakdown:
